WATCH: Dean Rock had the most chill response ever to scoring the winner of an All-Ireland Final

Carl Kinsella

“Ah, look.”

Dean Rock won the day for Dublin this afternoon in Croke Park, not just scoring the winning point in the depths of added time — but also chipping in with six more scores throughout the game.

Naturally, he was the first man RTÉ wanted to talk to after the final whistle blew… But the Dublin star actually had a pretty chilled out response to his massive achievement.

Asked whether he had nerves of steel to put the ball over the bar despite the high stakes, Rock said “Ah, look. Just absolutely delighted the ball went over the bar, Diarmuid did very well to win the free and it’s my job to put it over the bar.”

Then, after shaking off a bear hug from a teammate, he was asked what was going through his head as he kicked the point, as it was “no ordinary free.” Again, relaxed as you like, Rock said “Ah, look, as I said it’s my job to put the ball over the bar.”

Job done, sir. Dublin ran out 1-17 to 1-16 winners in one of the closest and most entertaining football finals in recent history.

Rock paid tribute to his opponents, saying that “there’s always a point in it” when it comes to Dublin vs Mayo, and saying that Mayo “bring out the best in [us] and I’m sure it’ll be the same again next year.”
