WATCH: Ellen Keane’s Dad was the proudest man in Rio after she qualified for tonight’s final

And dressed in a leprechaun suit and all.

The pride felt by the families of Irish athletes at the Olympics and Paralympics has been one of the most endearing features of both competitions in recent weeks.

Our own Joe Harrington, for example, captured lovely moments with the proud mother of the silver medal-winning O’Donovan brothers from Cork and the mother and father of Thomas Barr, who went so close to winning a medal in the 400 metres hurdles.

On Friday, it was the turn of Eddie Keane to salute the achievements of his daughter Ellen, who reached her third final of the Paralympics when setting a personal best to finish third in the final heat of the 100 metres backstroke.

Ellen herself looked made up at her achievement and in the crowd, her father Eddie couldn’t have been happier as he waved the Irish flag while clad in a full leprechaun suit.

Fingers crossed he has more reasons to cheer following the final on Friday night.
