If you’re still waiting to find out the results of Backlash then consider this to be your spoiler alert.

Finn Balor and Sheamus aren’t the only Irish superstars making a name for themselves in the WWE because Dubliner Becky Lynch has just created a little piece of history after becoming the first SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Lynch started training in 2002 and before being signed to WWE NXT in 2013, she competed in the One Pro Wrestling, SuperGirls Wrestling,  Shimmer Women Athletes and other organisations.

Like many of the athletes in the WWE, Lynch also had to endure serious setbacks and injuries in her bid to reach the top. She suffered cranial nerve damage and broke both her ankles in the ring.

After being drafted to SmackDown as part of the 2016 draft, Lynch wasted no time in establishing herself as the dominant athlete in the female division.

Her crowning moment arrived at Backlash as she competed in the Women’s Six-Pack match against Naomi, Natalya, Alexa Bliss, Carmella and Nikki Bella.

After an epic match, the Dubliner was left to face Carmella in the ring and Becky would take the title after countering an attack from Carmella to lock in the Dis-Arm-Her.

In a truly lovely moment, chants of “You deserve it” rained down from the crowd as Becky left with the title draped over her shoulder.

After the match, she said “It doesn’t feel real. It’s a dream come true. I started at 15 and I always wanted to be here. I dreamed of being here in the WWE and to be the women’s champion.

The title suits her. We’re absolutely delighted for her.
