Khabib Nurmagomedov was also fighting at UFC 205 on Sunday morning, but his fight with Michael Johnson was on the preliminary card.
Nurmagomedov put an absolute beating on Johnson for three rounds en route to a submission victory in the third round.
It was an oppressive performance from the Russian sambo fighter where he mauled Johnson on the ground and made guard passes at will. While Johnson showed tremendous resilience, he was outclassed in this area on the back of the best perfromace of his career against Dustin Poirier last time out.
It emerged in recent days that Nurmagomedov spoke with Johnson during the fight and urged him to submit when he locked in a kimura, rather than risking breaking his arm.
But he also shouted at Dana White during the fight and claimed his was going to “smash” Conor McGregor.
Numragomedov is undefeated in MMA and possesses the kind of ground game that makes him a nightmare match-up for any fighter, but will he face McGregor next? Some seem to think so…
