WATCH: Mayo brothers outdo themselves with gangsta GAA rap before the All-Ireland Final

Conor Heneghan

“I love Mayo, till the day I die, when we beat the Dubs, it gon’ make me cry…”

Mayo fans have been untypically lacking on the musical front in the lead-up to next weekend’s All-Ireland Final against Dublin.

Granted, there have been a few numbers so far but under normal circumstances, you’d nearly have enough to fill an entire double album with a few bonus tracks left over.

The shortage of songs this time around could be a sign of a more low-key approach from the Westerners, or it could be because Mayo musicians have heard the latest fan track and decided that there’s no way in hell that they’re going to better it.

Composed and performed by brothers Michael and Mark Duffy with plenty of help from their younger brother Eoin,  ‘I Love Mayo’ goes to the tune of ‘The Streets’ by WC featuring Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg and will have Dublin fans quaking in their boots with just one listen.

While it may be of a genre different to most GAA songs, the song does tick a few mandatory GAA song boxes, such as cramming the names of as many county towns as possible and some obligatory commentary from the journey to Croke Park.

Mayo mean bizniz this time alright.

Cheers to Michael Duffy for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102 or mail [email protected].
