Come again, Paul?
JP ‘Flash’ Donelon and Yvonne Lindsay from Dunmore in Galway got married late last month and as best man, Paul McGrath wanted to do something to make the big day a little bit extra special.
In fact, Paul put in the groundwork as early as last July, when he attended an open training session by the Irish rugby squad in Galway as they prepared for the Rugby World Cup.
Paul approached the Irish players and manager Joe Schmidt, one by one, and asked a host of them – including Cian Healy, Sean O’Brien, Luke Fitzgerald, Andrew Trimble and Jamie Heaslip – to wish the happy couple all the best on their big day.
It was a simple enough request and was carried out to a tee by all of the players, apart from the former captain, who responded as if asked to recite the alphabet backwards.
Paul said that the players were “absolute legends who couldn’t have been any sounder”; if he ever tries it again, he might give Paulie a few extra minutes to prepare the line first.
