Brothers Gary and Paul O’Donovan have made it into the men’s lightweight sculls final this evening.
After winning their heat on Monday, the Cork boys exceeded expectations today and finished in third spot behind the United States and France.
It was a particularly enthralling finish, with Team GB narrowly ahead of the Irish lads with 500m to go. The O’Donovans saw it out though and claimed a big win to make it into the finals.
When interviewed by RTÉ the lads were chuffed with Gary remarking that “You know, with the year that’s in it, t’was great to beat the Brits as well.”
Well said.
