WATCH: The O’Donovan brothers were full of devilment in their latest memorable TV interview

Conor Heneghan

“Skibbereen’s after closing down, a national holiday or something. And we’re missing it all.”

Gary and Paul O’Donovan are on top of the world following their magnificent silver medal performance in the men’s lightweight double sculls rowing event in Rio de Janeiro today.

If you somehow missed it, check out their interview immediately after that success, the reaction of their mother Trisha, the medal ceremony itself and the two lads going out rowing again after it was all over.

It’s not even a slight understatement to say that Ireland has developed a huge soft spot for the brothers from Skibbereen, not just for their obvious sporting talent, but for the personality they’ve shown in every single TV performance so far.

Darragh Maloney caught up with them live from Rio this evening, where the magnitude of their success was still sinking in.

Listening to them, you’d swear they were having a casual chat with friends as they mentioned looking forward to some pizza, struggling to go for a pee in a cup and missing out on all the craic back home in Skibbereen.

Don’t worry fellas, there’ll be even more of it when the two of you eventually get home.

The sooner these fellas get their own TV show the better.
