This wasn’t supposed to happen.
Norway eventually emerged comfortable 4-1 winners against San Marino in their World Cup qualifying clash on Tuesday evening, but that one goal for their opponents shouldn’t be underestimated.
It was their first goal in over a year, their first away goal in a World Cup qualifier in 15 years and it actually drew them level on the night.

We know all about the ignominy of conceding a goal to San Marino, having required a Stephen Ireland injury-time winner to secure a 2-1 victory back in the dark days of the Steve Staunton era in 2007.
It wasn’t quite as uncomfortable as that for Norway tonight, but you should have tried telling that to these Norwegian pundits after the minnows equalised through Mattia Stefanelli.
