WATCH: These local commentators made this absolutely amazing Irish student race even better

Colm Boohig

UCC came from nowhere to pick up a legendary victory.

You’ll have to go a long, long way to find a better finish to a race, both on the track and in commentary, than this women’s 4x400m relay in the Irish Universities Athletics Association (IUAA).

UCD looked like they were going to win this by a country mile, until Michelle Finn (“the future Olympian”) of UL came storming back.

However, just as another team, CIT, looked to be catching up, UCC came “from the depths of hell”, with Phil Healy carving her name in the university’s sporting faculty folklore by completing an amazing comeback and literally falling over the line to record a stunning victory.

The commentary solidifies this clip as an all-time great, with both men losing their minds in the last minute of the run.

The whole clip below is very entertaining, but if you’re in a hurry, skip to the three-minute mark and enjoy what is surely one of the finest Irish sporting finales ever.
