WATCH: Did this UFC fighter use a crafty method to cut 1.2lbs at the weigh-ins?

It was all odd and unprecedented.

There was drama at the weigh-ins for UFC 210 in Buffalo as the main event on the card looked, for moments, to be in severe doubt.

Daniel Cormier appeared for the weigh-in, and stepped on the scale with only a towel held in front of him by two helpers, and he came in at 206.2lbs, too heavy for the 205lbs light heavyweight division he was trying for.

Under the new weigh-in rules, fighters have a two hour period where they can weigh in. But in exchange, they’re not allowed a second weigh-in attempt once they hit the scale. So it’s all or nothing, usually…

But the NYSAC deferred to a state rule in which championship fighters are allowed to hit the scale a second time within two hours if they miss weight.

This allowed Daniel Cormier to come back again, less than three minutes later and step on the.

This time, to everyone’s great surprise, he weighed in at 205lbs on the button. So he lost 1.2lbs in three minutes.

But some are suggesting that DC used an old-school wrestlers move when stepping on the scale a second time, by leaning on the towel held up in front of him.

But as reported by MMA Fighting, when talking with reporters afterwards, NYSAC executive director Tony Giardini said he didn’t notice if Cormier was making an attempt to game the system.

“I didn’t see it,” Giardini said. “Either way, he weighed in 1.2 pounds less the second time.”

A clever move by Cormier?
