WATCH: Wonderful minute of applause for the late Derry City captain Ryan McBride at Windsor Park

Carl Kinsella

Since the news of Derry City captain Ryan McBride’s untimely passing last week, it’s fair to say that Ireland’s football community is still in mourning.

Fans supporting the Northern Ireland team at Windsor Park on Sunday evening had the chance to pay their respects to a talented footballer who was, by all accounts, a truly lovely guy as well.

The crowd respectfully observed a minute of applause for McBride, a fitting tribute to a man who gave his all to the game.

Northern Ireland went on to sweep Norway aside with a comfortable 2-0 win.

The tribute was one of many moments of applause or silence dedicated to McBride throughout the week. At the Aviva, James McClean wore a jersey with McBride’s number 5 on it, and a spontaneous minute of applause rippled through the stadium after the fifth minute.
