As Wayne Rooney's Premier League career tapered off, reminders of his ability became all too rare.
But on Sunday night, the former Man United man showed exactly why football fans spent so many years rating him as one of the greatest players to play in the Premier League.
In the dying seconds of last night's clash between his DC United and their opponents Orlando, with the game tied at 2-2 and Orlando surging forward, Rooney tracked back to execute a crunching tackle in his own half before striding forward with the ball.
It's very clear from the footage that there's basically no juice left in his legs after playing 96 minutes, but Rooney sent a high, swerving ball into the box for Luciano Acosta to head into the corner — completing his hat-trick.
Still, nobody was talking about Acosta after the goal — it was all about the determination and quality shown by Rooney. Check out the magic moment below... and take particular note of just how exhausted he looks as the rest of his team is celebrating.
