Only the other week we brought you the news that former Tipp hurling keeper Brendan Cummins scored a monster 19 points in Gaelic football for Ballybacon/Grange.

That was seriously impressive but it did feature 14 points from dead balls, and it was at Intermediate level so we’ll have to take that into account. Sorry Brendan. With that in mind we think that the individual scoring tally of the season crown should instead pass to Westmeath’s John Heslin.

Lining out for his club St Loman’s last night against The Downs in the Westmeath SFC, Heslin scored a sensational 3-9, 2-6 of which came from play. The final score was an emphatic 3-23 to 0-5, the result putting the Mullingar club into the semi-finals.

Heslin did rack up an even more impressive 2-16 in the county championship last year, but we wouldn’t back against him matching or beating that before the year is out. Some man
