What’s going on? Odds on David Moyes to be next manager axed tumble

Surely the Glazers aren't going to fire the ex-Everton man before the end of the season but the bookies aren't taking any chances.

Surely the Glazers aren’t going to fire the ex-Everton man before the end of the season but the bookies aren’t taking any chances.

When we woke up this morning, it was West Brom’s new gaffer Pepe Mel who was favourite to be the next Premier League manager sacked. His name was all over the back pages with reports that the players were not fans of his methods and that fact that he had yet to win a Premier League game was also going against him.

But in the last hour, something (a rumour, a flood of money, a bit of mischief) has been going on in the betting markets and now, David Moyes is the favourite for the sack. Coral briefly suspended the market on next manager to be fired and all the bookies still offering a price have Moyes odds on.

Best price is Ladbrokes at 10/11, while Paddy Power have slashed their odds on Moyes getting fired next from 15/2 to 8/11 in the last hour.

We know it doesn’t take huge money to move these markets, and this may just be an over-reaction to last night’s admittedly terrible result for Manchester United in Greece but it certainly makes for yet more grim reading for Moyes, on a day he was probably hoping for a bit of good news.
