A new feature coming to the iPhone is good news for those of us who read it in bed

That means pretty much everyone with an iPhone right?

Most of us could barely get by without our smartphones, but there are some negative drawbacks when you can’t stand to have it out of your hand for more than a minute.

One of the most obvious drawbacks is the fact that smartphones are not exactly conducive to a good night’s sleep.

For a start, that one last look at your Facebook or Twitter feed will probably cost you a valuable few minutes’ shut-eye, while the glare from the screen doesn’t help either.

A feature of the iOS 9.3 update, which has just been released to developers in beta form, won’t be able to help you in terms of putting your phone down at night, but will help as far as the glare from the screen is concerned.

The feature, called Night Shift, will, according to Apple, use your iOS device’s clock and geolocation to determine when it’s sunset in your location.

Then, it automatically shifts the colors in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum, making it easier on your eyes. In the morning, it returns the display to its regular settings.

In developing Night Shift, Apple cited research showing that exposure to bright blue light in the evening can affect your circadian rhythms and make it harder to fall asleep and expect Night Shift to solve a few problems on that score.

It is one of a number of features on the iOS 9.3 update, more information on which is provided here.

Will it work? We’ll believe it when we… zzzzzz.
