Facebook’s have released a new app that’s ideal if you live in an area with dodgy internet

It’s been a year since it was released in some areas, but it’s finally been made available to users in Ireland and the UK.

Facebook’s “Lite” version of its Messenger app is now available for Android users in the Google Play Store.

Messenger Lite is like a scaled down version of the original Messenger app, without a number of features from the app including the Snapchat-like features and games, which provides for a quicker and more user friendly messaging app.

The Lite app was created for users in areas with limited bandwidth who were more likely to be using mid to low range smartphones and as such, there’s no iOS version, with none in the pipeline either according to TechCrunch.

“We’re excited to bring Messenger Lite to Android users in four new markets, including Canada, Ireland, the U.K. and the U.S.,” a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch.

“Messenger Lite is a slimmed-down version of Messenger that offers the core features of the app, while giving everyone the opportunity to stay connected to their friends and family, regardless of device or quality of internet connectivity.”

The Lite apps are smaller than 10MB to download and require far fewer system requirements. With the limited features, it will eat far less data and will not require
