Google’s new feature is rather creepy and it could lead to some awkward moments

Alan Loughnane

We’re not quite sure how to feel about this…

Google is one of the biggest companies on earth and the tech giant almost has a monopoly of the search engine market, such is their domination in the tech scene.

A few months ago, we heard that Google would be using data obtained from users to let you know if a restaurant or public place you wish to visit is busy, which we found slightly invasive.

Now Google are updating their Maps app with new features to let friends view each other’s location in real-time.

This means that if you’re lying to your friends telling them you’re on your way to their plans, while in reality you’re sitting on the couch chowing down on pizza, your friends could now know you’re telling fibs.

Which could be a little bit awkward we think…

The good thing is, you will be able to limit who can see your location and the length of time they’re able to see your location.

You will be able to share your location with anyone on your Google contacts list, regardless of what kind of device they’re using.

There’s no date yet on when the new feature will be coming into effect with Google stating that it will be “soon”, without giving a concrete date.

What do you think of the new feature?
