And not by a wee amount either.

And not by a wee amount either.

That’s right, Louth might be the smallest county in Ireland, but let it not be said that the population of the Wee County are behind the times when it comes to social media after a recent study found that it was the most active of all of the 26 counties in the Republic of Ireland on Twitter.

In an attempt to look more closely at how the population of Ireland use Twitter, Bank of Ireland commissioned digital agency Eightytwenty to conduct research on all Irish Tweets that included location information over a month-long period in July 2013 and Louth came out on top, with 6,688 tweets for every 1,000 people in the county.

Those figures put Louth way ahead of their nearest challengers, Waterford, (5,096 tweets), Monaghan (4,530 tweets) and Dublin (4,461 tweets), with six of the top ten counties located in the east of Ireland and the west and midlands lagging behind.

Longford, meanwhile, was the county with the lowest Twitter activity with 1,128 tweets for every 1,000 people in the county ahead of Clare (1,706), Westmeath (1,903) and Kerry (1,924).
