Yet another way to message your buddies...

Yet another way to message your buddies…

Instagram are catching on to the success of the self-deleting photo trend by announcing the launch of their new app called Bolt. It’s described as a new messaging app that allows users to send short-lived photo and video messages from mobile devices. That sounds very similar to Snapchat doesn’t it…

Bolt is currently only available in New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa because they are testing the experience on a limited scale but a spokesperson told The Verve (not the band) that “We’re going to other regions soon, but are starting with handful of countries to make sure we can scale the experience.”

We love the name ‘Bolt’ for an app and so do the people who created the messaging app called ‘Bolt’ last year. As you can imagine, they are trying to stop the photo app giant using their name for the new app.

A spokesperson wrote an open letter to Instagram saying “We know it’s a great name, because we chose it last year when we set out to build a better mobile voice and messaging experience. We’ve worked really hard since then building the Bolt brand and technology to where it is today. Please don’t destroy all that effort.”

Whatever happens you’ll have a new way to send and receive self-destructing photos, happy snapping.
