Disaster Report 4, a Japanese Playstation 3 video game that allows players to survive a Japanese earthquake, was today cancelled without explanation by developers Irem.

The move, which was clearly made as a sign of respect during the horrific and ongoing aftermath of last week’s Japanese tsunami and earthquake, follows a number of delays of video games which have temporarily shelved for drawing comparisons to the natural disaster.

Yakuza: Of The End, another PS3 title, was set for release on March 17 but has now been pushed back by developers SEGA to an unannounced date due to “various cirumstances”. The game marks a swift departure for the mob series, as player’s must instead fight an outbreak of the undead in a highly populated fictional Japanese city.

Another disaster-themed release, the racing title Motorstorm: Apocalypse, was also hit with with a delay. The racer, which is hitting European shelves this Friday, was set to have the same release date as the aforementioned Yakuza title.

As for Disaster Report 4, the disaster game actually experienced a huge bump in pre-order sales in recent days, even entering the Amazon.co.jp pre-release charts prior to its cancellation.
