You don't even have to go to a galaxy far far away...
Especially for those of us who grew up watching Star Wars and Star Trek, space travel is something we've always dreamed of. We might be a few years away from heading to work in an X-Wing fighter, but Ubisoft's video game Starlink: Battle for Atlas is a step in the right direction.
Basically, the idea is that you buy your own modular toys that let you build your own starship. The ship you build has a huge impact on how you'll be able to play in the game as well, so choose wisely!
Once you've chosen your pilot, wings, and body, you go about crafting the ship itself. You can then hook it up to your controller and use it in-game, pretty sweet!
The game is out now on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. You get a starter pack with the game that gives you all the essentials, but then it's totally up to you where you go from there.
You can experiment with the type of load-out you like the best, and change your ship to suit your style of play. Each pilot and ship has its own strengths and weaknesses, so there is a good bit of strategy involved too.
Build your own starship
As well as manning your custom-built ship, you'll get to lead a group of interstellar pilots on a heroic journey through space. After the villainous Forgotten Legion kidnaps your comrades, it's your character that will be the key to securing victory.
While choosing your ship is a big part of it, the game itself is jam-packed with other things to do and places to explore. As you'd expect with a game from Ubisoft, you'll be encouraged to explore the world in full.
Not that you'd need much encouragement to explore this colourful and gorgeous universe...
We might not yet have the technology that we see in sci-fi movies, but we are definitely making huge progress. Astronaut and all-round legend Chris Hadfield recently spoke about the importance of understanding space travel.
Trust us, you'd best listen to him, because the man knows what he's talking about; he's flown TWO space shuttle missions (in actual outer space), served as Commander of the International Space Station (in actual outer space), AND plays a mean version of David Bowie's 'Space Oddity' (yes, this also happened in actual outer space).

So what are you waiting for? Whether you want to relive the magic of your stellar sci-fi youth or give the excellent gift of exploration and discovery to someone younger, then this is just the game for you.
Plus, Christmas is just around the corner after all, and you do deserve to treat yourself, right?
