System Shock was released on PC back in 1994, and its even better sequel in 1999, but it has been radio silence since then.
While games series like Deus Ex and Bioshock have given us glimpses of similar worlds, fans have been waiting patiently for almost two decades to see if anyone would finally return to the world of evil A.I. creation Shodan.
There had already been announcement of the original game getting a full remake and set for a 2018 release, but really we’ve all been excited to see what might happen next in the story.

According to Eurogamer, System Shock 3 is now a go, with new publisher Starbreeze – they were behind the likes of The Darkness and Brothers: A Tale Of Two Songs – investing $12 million in the project.
If you think that sounds like a lot of money, let us just remind you that a run-of-the-mill Call Of Duty games has a $200 million budget, while Destiny cost half a billion, so that investment is relatively small fry.
Regardless, this is great news for System Shock fans, especially with the involvement of Warren Spector, the producer of the original game back in the day.
He announced that the new game will be set in the same year as System Shock 2, and will look further into the evil plans of Shodan.
The publishers also stated that they were aiming to have the new game available on PC and other platforms, so it looks like PS4 and XBox One owners can get in on the fun, too.
Well, we say fun, but Shodan was actually properly terrifying…
