Pic: Attention everyone in Ireland! There’s now a “force field” umbrella and it’s awesome

The future is now...

The future is now…

Is anyone else already sick of walking around in the lashing rain and going home with wet shoes, socks, jeans, boxers, jumpers, t-shirts and skin? Yeah, us too.

We would usually have an umbrella but they are useless in our Irish weather because they knock us off our normally perfect balance and blow out and become a container for the rain rather than a deflector.

However, all of that could be a thing of the past because the Air Umbrella is here and it looks like the perfect solution to all our bad weather needs.

The device uses powerfully forced air to form a canopy over your head rather than the traditional fabric brolly. You can adjust the size of the canopy by powering it up or down and the noise from it is mostly cancelled out by the rain. Here’s what it looks like…

Umbrella 1

We think it sort of looks like a flashlight so you won’t look like too much of a weirdo if you’re carrying it down the street. Well, you will look a little bit weird but it’s a frickin’ cool gadget so don’t sweat it.

If you want to be one of the first people in the country to own one, it’s currently available through a Kickstarter campaign. The cheapest option at the moment is €92, but those are selling quickly so if you want one, click on that Kickstarter link.

Hat-tip to IFLScience.
