A quarter of Irish men said they would shut down one of their social media accounts

Social media is a useful way to connect with people, keep up with what’s going on, and stay in touch with friends, but it can also be incredibly time-consuming and addictive.

This may be why 26% of Irish men said that they would shut down as social media account in the next 12 months, according to a recent Slice of Ireland survey by JOE.

Only 17% of women said that they would do the same.

Facebook was the profile most people said they would like to shut down, with over 50% of people choosing it. This was followed by Twitter, which 25% of people said they would close.

Snapchat and Instagram also ranked highly both with over 10% of participants saying that they would delete one of them.

Whatsapp scored the lowest with only 5% of people saying that they would stop using it.

While social media is showing no signs of stopping, it seems that many people are now becoming aware of the possible negative affects over-use of social media might have.

For example, 81% of people believe that what you put online can affect your career.
