Say goodbye to your friends and family, because Mario Kart is coming to your mobile devices

Rory Cashin

A year from now we’ll look back and think “Wow, what did I used to do with my free time?”

While there have already been some great retro-games added to iOS and Android (we’re looking at you, Sonic The Hedgehog 2), this will pretty much the pinnacle of free-time devouring gameplay.

Mario Kart Tour is set for release on pretty much all mobile devices, as Nintendo have proven to phones and tablets to be a great medium for the ports of some of their other hugely popular games, such as Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

However, anyone hoping to get their hands on it anytime soon will be left more than a little disappointed…

With the first Super Mario Kart released back in 1992, there have been over 100 million copies of the series so far to date, so to say that it has proven popular is an understatement.

However, we imagine that there will still be arguments over who gets to play as Mario, and who gets left with playing as Yoshi.

So really, as we need now is for someone to port over Twisted Metal for the mobile, and we can happily live in our little nostalgia bubble for the foreseeable future.
