In case you were hiding under a rock yesterday evening or you’re a dedicated luddite you’ll know that the new iPhone 6 was revealed last night, with enough new features included to have Apple fanatics positively salivating at the prospect of getting their hands on the new toy. For all the details, click here.

Much as it will kill iPhone fans on this side of the world to have to wait, the new model – or should we say models because there is, of course, an iPhone 6 and an iPhone 6 Plus (the best use of the phrase 6 Plus since Calpol) – won’t be available to order until September 26 and when it is available it won’t come cheap.

Pricing details for Ireland were revealed last night on the Apple website, with prices starting at €699 for an iPhone 6 with a 4.7 inch display and 16GB of storage, stretching to €999 for an iPhone 6 Plus with a 5.5 inch display and 128GB of storage. We don’t mean to offend iPhone die-hards here but that’s right, you’re talking about a grand for what is, for all intents and purposes, a phone. A spicy meatball indeed.

You can find out more details about the cost of the new iPhone and a more in-depth look at some of the new features here; you’re going to be seeing and hearing a lot more about it between now and Christmas.
