Tesco Mobile released a statement on the matter shortly after 10.30pm on Tuesday night, which read: “The network has now been restored and the majority of customers are reconnected. A small number of customers may still experience some intermittent issues in the coming hours as the network restores to full capacity. We’re really sorry for the inconvenience caused and thank customers for their continued patience.

“Earlier in the day (Tuesday) third-party damage to the fibre optic network for Three Ireland, who supply network services to Tesco Mobile and other operators, has led to disruption of voice calls and SMS services for some customers.”

A number of Tesco Mobile customers throughout Ireland were affected by a loss of coverage due to a technical issue reported by the provider on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, Tesco Ireland issued a statement via its Twitter account, which read: “Hi everyone, we’re currently tracking a technical issue with the network which is affecting some of our customers.

“We’re working to have this issue sorted asap. We thank you for your patience during this time. Will keep you posted with an update.”

A number of Tesco Mobile customers responded to the original statement reporting a loss of coverage, with Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Tipperary, Westmeath, Clare, Mayo, Monaghan, Cork and Galway amongst the counties affected.

Shortly after 2pm on Tuesday afternoon, Tesco Mobile issued an update on its Twitter account, which read: “Hi everyone, some of our customers are reporting that the data service is not fully restored and we’re investigating further.

“We’ll send an update when we have more info about when the network will be back to normal. We do appreciate your continued patience during this time.”

Updates on the issue will be provided by Tesco Mobile on its Twitter page.
