What was so wrong with a favourite anyway?

Twitter threw something of a curveball out of the blue this afternoon when announcing that users of the social network would no longer be able to ‘favourite’ tweets. That particular function has now been replaced by a ‘like’ system instead. You can read the (not entirely convincing) reasons behind the change here, but the sudden dismissal of a response that allowed users to like, express empathy, highlight something to read for later or abruptly put an end to a conversation took Twitter users aback earlier today. https://twitter.com/twitter/status/661558661131558915?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw Twitter themselves reckon that users loved the new system in their testing phase and maybe it will end up being welcomed over time. Initially, however, being the *cough* welcoming and entirely devoid of cynicism place that it is *cough*, Twitter reacted to the new feature pretty much exactly as you’d expect. https://twitter.com/colmtobin/status/661565002973896704 https://twitter.com/newschambers/status/661562709675257856 https://twitter.com/laurenlaverne/status/661564830072102912 https://twitter.com/markhoppus/status/661564074212265989 https://twitter.com/AdamSerwer/status/661562315184152576 https://twitter.com/edyong209/status/661566051566645248 https://twitter.com/mrjohnbutler/status/661561122810634240 https://twitter.com/BarstoolBigCat/status/661564541277442048 https://twitter.com/FootballCliches/status/661566853093924864?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw https://twitter.com/FionnOnFire/status/661566629344481280
