Video: Back to the Future’s hoverboard has FINALLY been created by scientists

Great Scott! This is what we’re saving up for now…

When JOE was a young lad there were always a few things that we wanted from Santa, despite us not being good throughout the year in any way, shape or form.

We always wanted a Mr Frosty crushed-ice maker because it looked so cool, as did the Technodrome from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but Marty McFly’s hoverboard from Back to the Future: Part 2 was definitely top of our list.

We’ve waited 25 years for scientists and engineers to catch up, but it seems that they finally have and we’re about to have a geekgasm here in JOE Towers.

We can now hover six inches from the ground, rescue girls hanging from the edge of trains or escape from butt-heads with this new prototype that’s being developed by Californian start-up Hendo Hover.

Much like Biff or the hoverboards failure to work over water, there are some downers and catches, though.

The battery only lasts for just seven minutes, it will only float over metal and it costs $10,000 to get your hands on one of the ten limited edition hoverboards.

Their work has seen some positive results so far because the hoverboard currently levitates one inch from the ground, but as we’ve said above, the boards will hover work above certain surfaces.

Take a look at the promotional video below.

We’re off to ask our boss for a raise so we can start saving for this right away.

We desperately want to re-create this moment.
