VIDEO: RTE News’ interview with the Web Summit co-founder this evening made a lot of people angry

It was a little uncomfortable

The reaction at the end says it all.

As you probably know, the Web Summit is taking place in the RDS at the moment and although there are any amount of things to talk about, the fact that it is moving to Lisbon next year, and the reasons behind the move, are high on the agenda.

Daire Hickey, co-founder of the Web Summit, appeared on RTE News this evening to talk about the move and an atmosphere of tension that has prevailed since it was confirmed that it would not take place in Ireland next year.

Paddy Cosgrave had been due to do the interview but had to withdraw and Sharon Ni Bheoláin certainly didn’t hold back when grilling Hickey about how the move away from Ireland materialised.

You can watch the video above and make your own mind up, but the fact that Ni Bheoláin appeared to constantly interrupt Hickey and an alleged impartiality angered a lot of viewers when the interview aired earlier.

Hickey managed to maintain calm throughout, but his reaction right at the end of the interview would appear to suggest that it was one that he didn’t particularly enjoy.
