Creative Assembly have been working on a game based on the classic sci-fi movie Alien, and if the trailer is anything to go by, then this is a true labour of love.

As they say themselves in an interview with VG 24/7, they wanted to make the Alien game that no one had ever made and that they had never had the opportunity to play, so for fans of the franchise who have been disappointed in the past, this sounds very promising.

The overwhelming impression that you’re left with in the trailer is that you will be totally isolated and completely on your own in the Nostromo, which looks to have been almost perfectly recreated from the movies.

The idea is that, for at least the majority of the game, there is only one alien, and rather than being an action packed kill-em-up, this will be a horror game where you spend a lot of your time without any sort of weapon and petrified about where the alien itself is. You take on the role of Amanda Ripley, and are sent out to the Nostromo to try and find records of your mother. That doesn’t exactly go to plan, of course.

While the game won’t be released until 2014, this really does look like its going to be something different from Sega and Creative Assembly, and although the footage is of a work in progress and not the finished article, it already looks hugely atmospheric and true to what the movie thought the future would look like. Colour us excited for when this gets released.

Hat tip to the brilliant ShortList Mag for the video
