WATCH: The first look at Far Cry 5 brings the fear close to home

We wonder where they got the inspiration for this one...

The hugely popular Far Cry series has usually involved a completely ill-equipped protagonist caught up in (usually fictional) country’s civil war.

In 2004, you dealt with mercenaries in Micronesia, the 2008 sequel brought it to warring factions in Africa, the 2012 threequel was tourists fighting modern day pirates in the Pacific, and the fourth entry in 2014 had you escaping a despot in the Himalayas.

The series has never set foot in Europe or America, until now, when you head in to modern day Montana as a deputy sheriff is heads in to arrest the leader of a local cult, just as said cult leader arms his entire following and uses them to take over a small section of the state for themselves.

While the game isn’t due out on the PS4, Xbox One and PC until 27 Feb 2018, we wouldn’t want to wager a guess that developers Ubisoft want to strike while the iron is hot, and release a trailer for a game showing a part of America figuratively tearing itself apart, all things considered…
