WATCH: Man in Cork uses drone to successfully free woman who had locked herself in the toilet

Conor Heneghan

Of all the things this drone will accomplish, this will definitely be number one.

As you may have seen numerous times on this site in the past, drones are a wonderful tool to capture spectacular footage of towns, buildings and landscapes from an aerial vantage point.

They can do more that, of course, but until today, we’ve never heard of them being used to come to the aid of a damsel in distress who had locked herself in a toilet.

That’s exactly what happened in Ballincollig in Cork, when the guys at Irish Droneworks were able to use a DJI Phantom to come to a girl’s aid.

When she couldn’t open the lock when trying to exit the bathroom (even after using WD40 to try and loosen it up), Cillian Irish, the pilot, manoeuvred his drone to just above the window of the bathroom on the second floor of the house.

The girl trapped in the bathroom was then able to tie the key to a piece of string hanging from the drone, which Cillian navigated back down to earth and used the key to open the door.

Under the circumstances, we’re not sure if it’s an experience the rescued lady will be keen to recount too often, but she certainly won’t forget it in a hurry.

Cheers to Cillian Irish for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102 or mail [email protected].
