WATCH: People are mourning the loss of Vine by sharing some of their favourite ever clips

Conor Heneghan

Rest in peace Vine, you’ll be sorely missed.

You may have heard the news today (oh boy) that Twitter will be discontinuing short-form video app Vine as part of a major restructuring that will also lead to the loss of 9 per cent of its worldwide workforce.

Born in January 2013, Vine proved to be an instant hit, with social media users warming to the creativity, ingenuity, viral potential and lack of attention span required for six-second video clips.

Those clips are not going to be deleted, at least not for a while, and following the announcement on Thursday, Twitter users worldwide have been paying tribute to some of the classic of the Vine genre that have emerged over the best part of the last four years.

Some of these, it has to be said, including a collection from our own resident genius @vonstrenginho are absolutely fantastic.

Fare thee well Vine, we hardly knew ye.
