Ahead of next week’s first EU-IMF bailout instalment for the Irish economy it has been confirmed that the exchequer deficit stood at €18.7bn at the end of 2010. Sounds bad but it’s actually an improvement on 2009.

Meanwhile, Gayle Dunne, the wife of indebted property developer Sean Dunne, has become a developer herself. A real estate firm established by Mr Dunne has been transferred into his wife’s name.

And finally, a record 569 patients were stuck on hospital trolleys yesterday. We can definitely wade in with all who are calling for an overhaul of the health system. Shocking.
