Tonight’s Telly

Pick of the night: The Secrets of Scientology, 9.00pm, BBC1.

Reporter John Sweeney’s last investigation into the Church of Scientology resulted in an explosive confrontation with church officials. This time, in a Panorama Special, Sweeney follows up on his initial probing, and is joined by one of those officials who has turned whistleblower. He offers to provide John – and indeed the viewer – with an insider’s view of the organisation, and helps him to reveal some the church’s more closely guarded secrets, an organisation which boasts Hollywood A-listers Tom Cruise and John Travolta among its devotees.

Sporting highlight: UEFA Champions League Live, TV3 from 7.30pm.

Chelsea v Marseille (kick-off 7.45pm). Matt Cooper is joined by Tony Cascarino to present coverage of tonight’s matchday two Group F encounter at Stamford Bridge. The home side began the campaign with a comfortable 4-1 victory over MSK Zilina, whereas the visitors suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss at home to Spartak Moscow. The Blues last welcomed their French opponents to Stamford Bridge in the 1999/2000 season, when they were drawn against each other in the second group phase. That night saw a first-half goal from Dennis Wise secure a 1-0 victory for then manager Gianluca Vialli.
