The headline in the Sunday Independent is ‘Default! say the people’. In the Indo’s seemingly weekly poll, they rang up 500 people and asked them whether or not we should default. 57 per cent said that we should which, while not exactly the greatest majority in the world is certainly worthy of a front page headline in their newspaper.

Otherwise ringing up those 500 people would have been a total waste of time. The poll also found that around two-thirds (not exactly exact poll) oppose the austerity measures in the budget, which isn’t exactly the most surprising thing in the world. I mean, the majority of people, from our experience, would rather not have less money.

On the front of the Sunday Tribune is ‘Fractious, demoralised FF will remove Cowen after the budget,’ a headline that does exactly what it says on the tin. One deputy told the paper that Brian Cowen "is beyond repair in the eyes of the public," while another remarked, "It will be interesting when Cowen's popularity goes below the value of the yield on Irish government bonds." Minister for Sport Mary Hanafin has emerged as the favourite.
