Water shortages are set to continue into the New Year for potentially hundreds of thousands. The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government have told the Times, however, that local authorities are doing all they can to restore supplies and are appealing to householders to be patient.

'Roadside drug tests for drivers in weeks' - The Irish Independent

Drivers will face US-style roadside drugs tests starting next month, with Gardai trained to spot irregular pupil dilation. The tests will also include ordering a driver to stand on one leg and walk in a straight line.

‘Battle to get taps flowing’ - The Irish Examiner

The Examiner dominates its front page to the ongoing battle for water in households around the country. Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government water services advisor Gerry Galvin has said water supply plants are on full production, with demand abnormally high for this time of year.
