Over €2,600 of taxpayers’ money was spent on phone calls to help Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae win a celebrity reality TV show, it has been revealed.

Healy-Rae, son of the charismatic and controversial Jackie Healy-Rae, came out as the top dog on the 2007 show Celebrities Go Wild, but only after winning more than 3,500 votes generated from a phone within the Oireachtas.

The taxpayer ended up footing the €2,639 bill for the premium line calls to the number that was needed to vote specifically for Healy-Rae, whose father Jackie was a member of the Dáil at the time.

Neither Michael or Jackie have yet to comment on the revelations, but the cute Kerry hoors will do well to come up with a valid explanation for this farce.

Wanton disregard for taxpayers’ money has been something of a trend in this country in recent years, but surely this takes the biscuit.

In fairness to Healy-Rae, however, when Daithi Ó Sé, disgraced former Olympian Michelle de Bruin and one-hit wonder Mickey Joe Harte represent your competition, somebody is going to have to pull out all the stops if you’re going to come out on top.
