We’ll stand corrected if proven wrong, but we’ll hazard a guess to suggest that Cork airport became the first airport ever to be evacuated because of a toaster.
The airport was evacuated for ten minutes, though no flights were interrupted, as it came to a standstill all because of a burnt piece of toast.
It is believed that a toaster in the Custom’s area canteen set off at least two alarms, forcing the mandatory evacuation of the airport. We’re currently having visuals of poor “Bernie” sitting there having her tea in the canteen when the fire brigade kick in the door, hoses in hand, ready to use them…
Thankfully, it only caused embarrassment rather than any transport disruption, though you would imagine that someone will their fingers burnt over the whole episode….
so the fire alarms go off and they make the whole of cork airport evacuate the building so I’m standing outside in the rain, not my day.

A story that could only be born and ‘bread’ in Cork. Sorry, but… no actually we’re not really sorry.
