The Brit Awards last night saw Emeli Sande and Ben Howard top the list of winners.

Scottish singer Emeli Sande landed top of the pile with two Brit Awards last night. Sande took home Best Female Solo Artist and Best Album for ‘Our Version of Events’. The album was the biggest selling in 2012 in the UK and Sande also performed at the London Olympic’s opening and closing ceremonies, ensuring a high profile for the singer.

Ben Howard also collected two awards, one for Best British Breakthrough Act and Best Male Solo Artist. Howard released his debut album in 2012 called ‘Every Kingdom’ this year after his original EP ‘Games in the Dark’.
Last years Best Female Solo Artist, Adele accepted the award for Best British Single for ‘Skyfall’, the James Bond theme song. She sent a video message from L.A. where she is preparing for a performance at the Oscars this weekend.

Folk rock group Mumford and sons took away Best British Group while pop boy band One Direction took Best British Global Success for international sales in 2012. American band The Black Keys won the Best International Group while fellow American singer Lana Del Ray accepted the Best International Female Solo Artist. Frank Ocean won the Best International Male Solo Artist.
The Best Live Act went to Coldplay despite being pitted against veteran rockers The Rolling Stones, while the Critic’s Choice was Tom Odell.

The awards were hosted by James Corden, the presenter of A League of their Own while there were performances of the night by Justin Timberlanke, Taylor Swift, One Direction and Emeli Sande while Muse opened the show. The Brit award was designed by bizarre artist Damien Hirst (the guy who displayed a shark in a fish tank) and was colourfully spotted on white.
Special recognition went to War Child while Best British Producer went to Paul Epworth.
