Are Manchester United's kits going tartan for the 2012/13 season?
Although pundits are lining up to commemorate Sir Alex Ferguson's 25-year anniversary at Manchester United, leaked pics that allege to show United's new kit show a very different tribute.

Although pundits are lining up to commemorate Sir Alex Ferguson's 25-year anniversary at Manchester United, leaked pics that allege to show United's new kit show a very different tribute.

The pictures come from the football kit website Football Shirt Culture, which has a fantastic track record of leaking kits months before launch. For example, the site leaked this season's United kit in December 2010, six months before its eventual launch.

As you can see below, both the home and away kits have a tartan design, which may be a tribute to the club's iconic Scottish manager. Both shirts feature a v-neck collar and the message "Forged in industry, striving for glory" inside the collar.

One possible strike against the possibility of these kits being authentic is that it would be unusual for the club to launch two blue away kits consecutively, as they instead tend to alternate every two years between blue and white away kits. However, if the kits are fake, then they would be unusual and time-consuming fakes, in that they don't follow an existing Nike kit template.

As we said, the site that has leaked the kits has a proven track record, so remember where you read about the tartan design first when United's new jerseys launch around seven months from now.
