Arsenal and Tottenham set to battle it out for French striker

North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are set to battle it out for the signing of 23-year old French striker Kevin Gameiro.

Gameiro, who plays for Ligue 1 side Lorient, has reportedly been on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur for months, but reports in the French media have suggested that talks have already opened between Arsenal and Gameiro’s representatives.

Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh is currently Wenger’s main option in attack, but with Robin van Persie prone to injury and Nicklas Bendtner failing to back up his arrogance with his performances on the pitch, Wenger has decided to delve into the transfer market to increase his attacking options.

Italian giants AC Milan are also rumoured to be interested in Gameiro, but given Wenger’s history of bringing French players to the club, the Gunners have been tipped as favourites to secure his signature.

Gameiro made his debut for France in the clash with Belarus in September and has scored 30 goals in 79 appearances for Lorient since joining the club from Strasbourg in June 2008.
