Ball in Keane’s court as Spurs accept Birmingham offer

Robbie Keane’s future is in his own hands after Tottenham Hotspur accepted an offer from Birmingham City for the striker.

The Irish captain played ten minutes in Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park last night, but it seems as if that was the last time he will play for the club, as Harry Redknapp revealed that the club had accepted an offer from Birmingham City for the 30-year old.

“They have made an offer, about £7m, but it is up to Robbie,” said Redknapp.

“If he doesn’t go to Birmingham, he will either leave permanently or stay here.

“He certainly won’t be going on loan anywhere, not a chance.”

Although Redknapp has said he is happy for Keane to stay at White Hart Lane and fight for his place, a move away from the club looks like the only way that Keane can resurrect a career that has stagnated in the last couple of seasons.

Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko have all overtaken Keane in the pecking order of strikers at White Hart Lane, while Redknapp’s switch to a 4-5-1 formation to accommodate Rafael van der Vaart has also harmed Keane’s first-team chances at the club.
