Another weekend. Another Messi goal. Another record broken. Though it seems FIFA aren’t convinced.

Barcelona warmed up for their crunch Champions League tie with AC Milan on Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Deportivo, with the Argentinian coming off the bench to score in the 88th minute.
The brilliant solo effort meant that he has scored in 17 consecutive games in La Liga, which the club are convinced has broken the record held by Polish striker Teodor Pewterek held since the 1930s.
“With his goal against Deportivo, Messi broke the record set by Teodor Pewterek, who scored in 16 consecutive league matches between 1937 and 1938. In those 16 matches, the Ruch Chorzów player scored 22 goals, according to Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation,” the club website stated.
FIFA however have yet to confirm the record, not that we imagine it will bother the striker too much. Just another in his long list of personal achievements.
In those 17 games, Messi has hit 27 goals, which leaves him on 40 so far for the season, 14 goals clear of Ronaldo in second place.
The club would be more than grateful for a few more on Tuesday night.
