Beckham v Barton this Sunday and Joey says Becks is not a major threat anymore

David Beckham is poised to make his PSG debut against Marseilles this weekend, but his fellow countryman Joey Barton doesn’t believe he poses much of a threat anymore.

Top of the table PSG host third-placed Marseilles on Sunday night and while Carlo Ancelotti hasn’t confirmed if the former England captain will start, he has said he will play some part in the game. Not that Barton is pushed.

“I don't mean any disrespect (he never does), but he is not as scary as when he was playing in the Premier League,” he said.

“He (Beckham) is one of those players that doesn’t put the fear of God into you anymore like he used.”

He thinks that there are other stars in the PSG team that will be more of a cause for concern, but has admitted that the game will have a significant impact on their season, with the two sides meeting again next week in the quarter-finals of the cup.

The game kicks off at 8pm on Sunday night and the clash of the man who can't speak French versus the man who can't speak English in a French accent will be an interesting sub-plot.
