Big Apple here we come. Mayo cruise to FBD success
FBD League Final: Mayo 0-14 – 0-4 NUIG
Although winning the first silverware of the season was a welcome development, the minds of the Mayo footballers are no doubt somewhere in New York this morning.
For the second year in succession, the boys from the Yew County will be heading for a post-season jaunt to the Big Apple after they cruised to victory in the FBD League Final at McHale Park last night.
Making damn sure that no NUIG students were going to steal their title (or their holiday), James Horan fielded a strong Mayo side, with All-Star Andy Moran making his first start of the season and Conor Mortimer continuing his impressive return from injury with five points.
Horan’s men were in control throughout and ran out ten point winners over the students in the end.
Although the win ensures their bums will be on comfy Aer Lingus seats for the trip Stateside later this year, it would be devious of us to suggest that it took precedence over ensuring that they are in fine fettle for the start of the National League next week.
Safe trip, lads.
