Birmingham confirm Keane talks

Birmingham City have confirmed they are in talks with Robbie Keane over a move to St. Andrews.

The Blues are struggling in the Premier League this season and Alex McLeish has made it clear that adding some firepower to his squad is his main priority this month.

Keane’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks and McLeish’s side have emerged as the favourite to sign the 30-year old since the opening of the Transfer Window this month.

Keane has hardly featured for Spurs this season after falling behind Jermain Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Peter Crouch in the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

Keane himself is thought to be desperate for first team football, something that is bound to improve his form at international level following his well below-par performances in the recent Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Speaking on Tuesday, Redknapp reiterated that he would let Keane go, at the same time making it clear that he would rather keep the underplayed International.

"Robbie needs to play. He can play at the top level," 'Arry said.

"A loan wouldn't be an option for Robbie now, it would need to be a permanent move.

It has been reported that a fee in the region of £6million (€7million) would be enough to prise the Irish captain away from White Hart Lane.
