Waterford boss Michael Ryan was dealt a huge blow for the coming season with the news that work commitments have forced Stephen Molumphy to leave the hurling panel.

Speaking to BeatFM today, last year’s captain confirmed that he will miss the entire season due to Army commitments.

The Ballyduff Upper had managed to juggle work and hurling commitments in the past, but for this year he feels it is just not practical. He will be a huge loss to the Deise cause, who are still to hear if Tony Browne and John Mullane are to commit to 2013.

Ryan has yet to speak to both men but is “reasonably confident” they will be in action for the Championship. It would be Browne’s 22nd campaign in a Waterford jersey should he decide to stay on for another year.

It will be an anxious wait for the Deise supporters.
